MEGADETH released the four disk box set 'Warchest' in October 1997. Personally, I have everyone of Megadeth's cds so I am not just going to shell out money for no reason. However, if you don't have Megadeth's whole catalog then maybe you should get this one. On the other hand, A true fan would give a listen to every song every recorded by that metal band they cherish. As you know, mainstream media does not play metal unless their 'Disturbed'. The last time Megadeth got radio play was with the 'The World needs a hero' single, 'Crush'. "I don't want to go there!" Megadeth has come full circle with their master metal effort, United Abominations. Finally we have a guitar-driven album, layered with ferocious leeds and megadeth's usual bad attitude which translates into pure metal heaven. Dave Mustaine wrote 95% of the pointed and controversial lyrics that even got attention from somebody at the United Nations. I think Megadeth is one album away from creating a metal masterpiece. Megadeth's 2004 'The System has Failed' was pretty much a solo project for David Mustaine. Three years prior, David had injured his hand which led to him disbanding his old lineup. Thank goodness for us, his hand magically healed and he started putting the metal 'Holy wars' pieces back together again. Why do you think David didn't ask the other David (Ellefson) back? I thoroughly enjoyed the 2001 release, 'The World Needs a Hero'. It had a great mix of speed, thrash, mustaine's perfected spoken growl, and lots of attitude. I think Megadeth missed the target a little bit by making' Moto Psycho' the first single. Yet, I was very pleased to get one of my favorite metal bands back. I remember when Megadeth's 1999 release 'Risk' first came out. The music stores set up big cardboard shelves and posters for the much anticipated Megadeth album. One week later everything was put away. I read recently that Lars Ulrich from Metallica suggested to David Mustaine to try something different..hint Risk.. It is my opinion that Lars Ulrich and David Mustaine were both delusional about what true success means or Lars wanted Megadeth to collapse. I tried listening to 'Risk' again and I still can't find one song I like. Yea, 'Breadline' is a descent song, but the whole mindset about this record was not to make a &$&#@@*#$ kick ass 'metal' record but a #1 record. Did this record piss you off? LISTEN AND REVIEW! Megadeth hit alternative rock pay dirt with their 1997 Cryptic Writing outing. I enjoyed hearing Megadeth on the radio. At the time I did not understand why 'Vick rattlehead' was not on the cd cover It was like Megadeth did not want to be Megadeth anymore trying to shy away from negative media. "Popularity contests are acts of attrition when participated without the realms of ones expertise" Furthermore, you can not put your faith in people..thinking that the masses understand what great music sounds like At this moment, I am fretting about commenting on the 'Risk' ALbum. Megadeth's 1994 Youthanasia continued the softer metal pace in order to keep up with their mainstreem success they accomplished with 'Countdown'. Speed and power were replaced with clever guitar licks and even paced metal contained songs. Youthanasia is a well produced 'rock album'..but it is definitely not what their metal fans wanted. COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION

Megadeth's 1992 Countdown to Extinction brought the band their most success yet.
However, as with Metallica, some fans thought Megadeth sold out. Dave Mustaine's wanted a number one record.(ended up #2) He, as with Metallica, sought out to produce well crafted metal music hoping to gather more mainstream fans. In my opinion they also felt they were growing as musicians and as a businessman. Was Dave Mustain selling out or gathering unsuspecting, soon to be metalheads to the fold. Truth be told, their is some great songs off of 'Countdown to Extinction

Megadeth's 1990 'Rust in Peace' is hailed as a metal milestone by fans and critics alike. 'Rust in Peace' shares a strong political theme and drives it home with furious speed and masterful skill. Megadeth fans through the years have always held 'Megadeth' to 'Holy Wars' standards. As for myself, I liked Dave's vocals on other albums and 'Hangar 18' is my only pic on this one. Should I be set on fire for feeling this way? What was your favorite song on the album?

Megadeth's 1988 Album, 'So far, So Good, So What' was a departure from total thrash/speed metal domination. It starts out with two blistering metal songs that will forever remain on my personal playlist. 'Mary Jane' showed great melody and texture. 'In my Darkest Hour' was heartfelt and multi-layered. This is my personal favorite Megadeth album! Am I out of my gorge liking this better then 'Rust in Peace'? LISTEN AND REVIEW! Dave Mustaine (founder/metal God) and company put out an album that sounded raw and unpolished, yet provided the essential Megadeth sound that would make them a Force in the Metal World.
